It's Never Too Late to Find Your Artistic Side

As we age, our bodies may start to let us down, but our artistic side is one part that will never fade. Perhaps, you're not an artist but it's never too late to discover new talents. Everyone has their own creativity, whether it’s conventional or unconventional, and you might find that you enjoy something that you always thought you weren’t good at doing. Your local senior center may offer many opportunities for you to find your artistic side, and we encourage you to give them a try!

Along with being enjoyable, arts and crafts have many possible health benefits for seniors. Clinical studies show creating art can reduce anxiety and depression associated with chronic diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Creative projects enhance cognitive function and provide a sense of competence, growth, and purpose. While retirement and aging can result in loneliness and boredom, participating in arts and crafts at your local senior center may alleviate boredom and provide the perfect opportunity to socialize with other artistic seniors in your community. These perks can keep you young at heart and aging well.

The Center offers a variety of arts and crafts classes, from watercolor painting, oil painting, and knitting to special programs like silk painting and stitching. You can participate in ornament-making for any holiday and also make your own customized flower arrangement. Regardless of your level of talent, Brookletts Place has creative fun you are sure to find one to love. Stop by or call any time during the Center’s hours, Monday-Friday from 8am-3pm, to find out more information about our arts and crafts classes and discover your artistic side!
