If you’re struggling to decide what to get the seniors in your life this holiday season, look no further. Brookletts Place offers the following suggestions and ideas for the 65 and up set that can help them stay happy and healthy in this ever-unusual year.

Health Supplements

Health supplements are an excellent gift idea for seniors, particularly those that continue to self-isolate. There are many different products to choose from, but one idea is to create a wellness gift basket that includes things like superfood drinks, protein shakes, and joint and nootropic supplements. Superfood drinks can help boost brain function, the immune system, and many are also formulated to reduce inflammation.

Speaking of inflammation and brain boosts, keep in mind a joint supplement can also ease pain, and a nootropic supplement can enhance cognitive function. You’ll just need to be sure to do your research before purchasing any of these items, as they may contain compounds that might negatively interact with a senior’s current medications.

Exercise Gear

Seniors, like all other demographics, can benefit from exercise. Unfortunately, mobility issues, visual impairments, and other age-related concerns combined with social distancing efforts may limit their ability to hit the gym. Consider gifting some comfortable workout clothing, such as tights, leggings, or other breathable pieces (Gap’s Athleta line is popular and pieces come in many different colors and styles) to fit their changing body. Small hand weights, athletic shoes, and, for the ladies, supportive sports bras are also a welcome gift.

When they have clothing and gear, consider downloading senior-friendly yoga videos or setting them up with an in-home personal trainer. Another excellent idea is to invest in a fitness tracking watch, which ranges in price from $20 or less up to $400 or more. You can read reviews for many of the most popular on PC Mag’s website.

Fun Fitness Accessories

A watch is a great accessory, but if you want to also provide them with something fun to enjoy throughout the holiday season and beyond, and you have a budget of $300 or more, consider the Nintendo Switch. Not only can your seniors connect with their grandchildren for some video games, they can also play Mario Tennis Aces, Ring Fit Adventure, or Fitness Boxing. When they cannot connect with their friends and family in person, video games are a great way to help them stay in touch while staying fit.

Time

Without question, the best gift you can give your senior is time. There is no question that older adults who are engaged with their friends and family live longer, healthier, and happier lives. Even if you cannot physically be with your loved one, the gift of a telephone call, a handwritten letter, or a video chat will be cherished long after anything wrapped in ribbons and bows.

This holiday season – and into 2021 and beyond – make sure that your gifts reflect your loved one’s needs, wants, and desires. Fitness essentials are the ideal present for our present state of things, and you do not have to spend an arm and a leg to give the gift of wellness to the senior in your life. From homemade supplement gift baskets to video game boxing, the above ideas will be a welcomed and exciting part of your senior’s holiday season.
